Wendie Thompson came to painting
relatively late in life although she had developed an appreciation early having
become a skilled custom framer. It was when her children left home and she was
searching for a way to spend time with her artist/engineer husband that she
began studying painting. It did not take long for her to develop a deep sense
of wonder and an unfailing enthusiasm for oil paint!
“Heaven for me is a day
painting in a garden.” Wendie paints
often using a painting knife with thick and luscious color. She strives to invite
a sense of mystery and joy in her work.
Thompson studied with
artist Lorin Willey for a number of years gaining a foundation in impressionism
and plein air. She has also studied with Tom Nachreiner, C.W. Mundy and Dan
Gerhartz. Her work is influenced by Monet, Renoir and Klimpt.
Wendie’s paintings can
be found in both private and corporate collections. She is a member of The Oil
Painters of America, The American Impressionist Society, The League of
Milwaukee Artists and she founded and administers The Wisconsin Plein Air
Painters Association.
