Day 25: Redtwigs and Sunflowers

Redtwigs and Sunflowers
8x10 oil on linen panel
$225

Day 25: This is the first painting in this series that I have painted from a photo...but I just had to do it. To keep it fresh I use a very quick sketch in clean pure chroma just enough to give me an idea of the space. Then I get out my palette knife and begin to lay in color...thick. I am really happy with this one! Hope you like it too!!

  1. This is wonderful! I love the colors and the composition. Sunflowers are my favorite as well.

  2. Such rich, beautiful color! I love red twig dogwood, and have a couple growing in my yard. Unfortunately, my husband decided to radically trim them last fall, so they are now only about eighteen inches high...but I have a good friend who cut some of her branches and brought them for my studio - where they are kept safe from my husband and the clipping shears!!!

  3. I love them too Claire! They grow wild all around me and I have vases full of them all over my house!
